If you've always wanted to experiment with laser cutters but don't have the space or funds - you can still enjoy the principles and cut objects on a smaller scale, by making your own desktop version.
Described by Instructables member kokpat, the desktop version can either move a small pen or a powerful laser across all three axes - allowing drawing or cutting in a small surface. It's a clever project and works quite well, as shown in the following video:
