Measuring smaller voltages with greater accuracy using your Arduino and AREF

Although almost every Arduino user will understand how the analogue input pins are used, their understanding of how to use the AREF pin may still be a mystery. This is a shame as the ability to measure smaller voltages with a better accuracy than with a 0~5V range could be incredibly useful.

However wonder no more as once again the tronixstuff.com website has a new tutorial that explains the limitations of the analogue input pins and also how to effectively use both the external and internal AREF functions of Arduino boards. They've also demonstrated this in action by using a circuit with a lower voltage range being measured with the same resolution, for example:

It's another useful tutorial, and will provide the required knowledge when working with sensors or other devices that report data in an analogue form lower than 5V - so visit the tutorial to learn more. And for more, we're on twitter and Google+, so follow us for news and product updates as well.

However if you're going to use devices with a digital interface that run on less than 5V - don't panic! Make sure you have some of our LEVEL: bidirectional 5V-3.3V level converters in stock. They're perfect for using 3.3V logic devices with 5V Arduino or other development boards. For more information and to order, click here.
